ZACH PRINCE (b. 1999, Silver Spring, MD; lives and works in Baltimore, MD) is a multi-disciplinary artist, mainly focusing on the art of puppetry. He is a BFA candidate at the Maryland Institute College of Art, set to graduate in the spring of 2021. His puppets have been featured in the Puppet Power Hour 2018 (MICA), the Berkshire Lantern Walk held at the Clark Art Institute, and in The 19th Great Halloween Lantern Parade held by the Creative Alliance in Baltimore.
His work will soon be featured in U R Tha 1!, a funk-musical short film produced as part of the Baltimore Rock Opera Society’s Puppet Six-Pack.
One of the core components in my work is appealing to the conceptual idea of the inner-child, making and creating for the sake of fun rather than a socially-conscious goal. The crux of my work, regardless of medium, is to create a new world where light-heartedness reigns supreme and the flexibility of imagination establishes universal guidelines. I find solace in the innate theatricality in my work. In puppetry, you're bringing a whole other being to life, and that is what is ultimately important to me: taking even the most outlandishly playful ideas and making them reality.
